The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) has added beltway veteran Jim Scarborough to its Washington, D.C., team as senior manager of government relations. Scarborough will focus primarily on state and local issues of interest to IAPMO, particularly with regard to the adoption of the Uniform Codes.
Scarborough brings more than 30 years of state and local policy experience, most recently with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) as senior manager of state and local government relations for the past six and a half years. There he oversaw state and local standards adoption, as well as organized state capitol outreach days for ASHRAE members.
“Jim is a welcomed asset to the team and the entire organization,” said Dain Hansen, senior vice president of government relations. “With his experience and background, especially from a standard developing organization, he will be a valuable addition to IAPMO.”
Prior to his time at ASHRAE, Scarborough served as an account executive with Randolph E. Cloud & Associates, a government relations and administrative management firm.
“I am very pleased to have become part of the IAPMO family,” said Scarborough. “I have a strong background in public health and safety and feel very strongly about IAPMO’s mission and purpose. I look forward to working with the members and staff in this new position.”
In addition to his career work, Scarborough is a board member emeritus of the Affordable Community Residence Association, a non-profit based in Durham, North Carolina, that provides affordable housing options for indigent and disabled individuals.
