Duravit Showcases Intelligent Design in Oodi Central Library
February 4, 2019
Duravit is showcasing its smart, savvy design in Finland: The new Oodi Central Library in downtown Helsinski features a stunning architectural structure, alongside some familiar, stand-out Duravit pieces.
The Oodi embodies Finland's values of education and free expression. Opened on December 5, 2018, the day before the 101st anniversary of Finland’s independence, the library's expansive and architectural design reflects a focus on creative thought and a dedication to sustainability. Designed by ALA Architects, the library is a nearly zero energy building and has three levels with unique focuses. The ground floor features a spacious lobby, exhibition and event area, central library services, and a café. The second floor was designed as an activity space for work, study, and conversation — along with meeting rooms and workshop areas. The third floor “book heaven" is a relaxed space devoted to reading, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a serene, cloud-like ceiling.
A focus on sustainable, efficient materials is especially evident in the bathrooms: Duravit's timelessly modern ME by Starck wall-mounted toilets and D-Code washbasins offer the highest level of function and quality, rounding out the Oodi Library's attention to detail and design.
