The Georgia Chapter of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association is now offering HVAC apprenticeship training to its members.
The curriculum is a four-year program developed by PHCC National in conjunction with the Air Conditioning Contractors Association and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. It is a nationally recognized training program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.
“With the shortage of skilled workers, this is the number one issue I hear from contractors on what is keeping them from growing their businesses,” said PHCC of Georgia Executive Director Ellen Whitaker. “Training the future workforce is the only way to solve this shortage. By offering this curriculum, PHCC of Georgia and the Academy are providing value to its members by delivering programs that benefit their businesses.”
The HVAC courses are being offered through the training arm of PHCC of Georgia known as the PHCC of Georgia Academy. The academy understands that contractors need flexibility in how they deliver training to their employees, so the Academy offers classroom, eLearning and/or in-house training programs throughout Georgia.
Currently, the academy has a location with a hands-on lab in Macon, Georgia. Just this month, the academy enrolled 12 students in an HVAC class, the first class up-and running in this inaugural year.
The academy also has member companies in Augusta, Savannah and Metro Atlanta utilizing a combination of eLearning and in-house training for their employees.
eLearning is comprised of an online learning management system that the apprentice can do at their own pace anytime of the day. All of these options include tracking and reporting of the apprentice‘s On-the-Job Training hours, which is a requirement of this DOL-registered program.
In addition to the new HVAC training program, PHCC of Georgia has also offered a plumbing apprentice program for more than three years, with more than 30 students enrolled.
