Forbes.com report that companies have raised hundreds of millions of dollars over the last few years to address the so-called “home services” market.
San Francisco’s BuildZoom jumped into the fray by announcing that it raised $10.6 million in investment dollars and plans to focus on remodeling projects, where the median budget is around $19,000.
BuildZoom, started in 2011, helps people find a contractor by analyzing building permits and project history, relying more on big data than on reviews and recommendations.
The company says its database of more than 3.5 million contractors is the largest in the United States. BuildZoom said it has about 85,000 contractors signed up for its platform nationwide and matches 2,500 home owner projects to workers every month.
