Dozens of current and former patients at Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children will dance the night away at the teen prom on May 5th thanks to a donation by Wilmington-based Speakman Company, the maker of high-performance showerheads and plumbing products. Speakman donated $10,000 in support of the event as presenting sponsor. This is the third year that Speakman has supported the Nemours’ seventh annual teen prom, which is themed “Reach for the Stars.”
The connection between Speakman and Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children began several years ago when an employee’s granddaughter was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
"We support this event annually because of the lifesaving work that happens at Nemours every day,” said Bob Knoll, CEO, Speakman Company. “The hospital provides essential care to children and young people in our community, including for family of our staff, so the connection is a natural for our company.”
The celebratory teen prom is held annually for Nemours patients who might not be able to attend dances and other events usually held at school because of their health concerns. In 2017, more than 100 pediatric patients and guests enjoyed the special prom.
