American Standard announces that its ActiClean self-cleaning toilet has been named a 2017 R&D 100 Award finalist in the Process and Prototyping category. This year’s R&D 100 Award winners were announced on Nov. 17 at a black-tie awards dinner at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in Orlando.
The ActiClean system is the toilet that cleans itself, combining the power of VorMax flushing technology, which delivers the cleanest flush ever engineered, with a fully integrated, user-activated self-cleaning system. The user simply presses a button, walks away, and the ActiClean system will scour the bowl with cleaning fluid, then soak and rinse for a sparkling clean bowl.
“This esteemed recognition of the innovative technology created by our talented product design team means a great deal to everyone in our organization,” said Maha El Kharbotly, chief marketing officer for LIXIL Americas, the division under which American Standard operates. “This ground-breaking toilet performance represents another chapter of our proud 140-year-old tradition of producing inventive, thoughtfully-engineered products that improve life for individuals across the country and around the world.”
The ActiClean self-cleaning toilet has also been recognized with a Gold 2017 A’ Design Award in the Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware category, a Gold 2017 American Business Award in the Consumer Products category, and a 2016 GREEN GOOD DESIGN Award in the Green Products category for its forward-thinking innovation and sustainability.
Since 1963, the R&D 100 Awards program has identified revolutionary technologies that have been newly introduced to the market. Widely recognized as the “Oscars of Invention,” the R&D 100 Awards identify and celebrate the top technology products of the year. Past winners have included sophisticated testing equipment, innovative new materials, chemistry breakthroughs, biomedical products, consumer items, and high-energy physics spanning industry, academia, and government-sponsored research.
