Now in their fourth year of extreme drought, more Californians are installing systems that recycle domestic wastewater (excluding sewage) for irrigation. Companies that install these systems say demand has soared in the past year; one company estimates a 200% increase. Costs for gray-water systems can range from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands or more.
