WSP, an international engineering and professional services consultancy, has acquired Willoughby Engineering, a 10-person MEP and building performance firm based in Chicago with an office in Dallas.
Tom Willoughby, who founded the firm in 2013, joins WSP as a senior vice president in Chicago. He will work closely with Brett Kelley, who leads the local buildings practice.
“With the addition of Willoughby Engineering, we now have a 20-person strong building systems team in Chicago, enabling us to face the market with a core group of staff focused on a range of integrated services spanning structural, MEP and related specialty services,” said David Cooper, president of WSP USA's buildings practice. “The office is now a 55-person strong integrated buildings practice with outstanding expertise across multiple market sectors, including high-rise commercial and residential, health care, science and technology, and higher education.”
According to Willoughby: “Our goal at Willoughby has been to create a new paradigm of quality of building engineering, technology and high performance design. Joining WSP will enable us to work in an environment of true collaborative design, on some of the most challenging projects in the United States today.”
The addition of Willoughby’s engineers in Dallas also enables WSP to expand its market reach in that office, providing local expertise in the commercial sector to supplement the office's expertise in health care engineering.
