Combing through the bound hardcovers here at HQ every month is quite the challenge! Not because they’re heavy books (they certainly are), but because the amount of content is simply astounding. Not unlike the current issues of the magazine, but a search bar would help!
This month we travel to the not so distant past of 1979. The Wholesaler was experiencing enormous amounts of success from the editorial content to the advertisements. I was particularly interested in a few ads from companies I had never heard before. Companies like CS&B, Microdot Products, and Cerro Copper Products Co. stuck out to me because of their clever ads in that year’s issue.
With the advent of digital marketing and the gargantuan need for online advertising, it’s nice to look back at the physical magazines and see the same amount of attention and effort placed into these ads.
A simple Google search provides much needed feedback from the above-mentioned companies. CS&B is now called CSB International Products, Inc. Microdot Products only comes back with computed connectors. And Cerro Copper Products Co. is not named Cerro Flow Products, Inc. I implore upon our readers if you have any additional information about these companies, please let us know by emailing me at Danielle@tmbpublishing.com.
All this is to say that it's evident the same amount of effort and energy placed in advertising back in 1979 is still present today. Just in a different medium. Think about the changes and challenges your companies have faced in recent decades. The rapid growth and evolution of technology certainly makes our heads spin. But looking back into the past always gives me comfort in knowing that the passion and drive in our industry isn't lost. It just looks different.
