Palm Harbor, Fla. – Joseph P. Romanelli, founder of Core Pipe Products Inc., passed away suddenly on May 7 at the age of 82.
The company, a manufacturer of stainless and alloy pipe fittings and flanges, started out as Gerlin Inc. in 1984, when Romanelli purchased the Tube Line Stainless division of Hi-Shear Industries Inc., according to the company.
Romanelli was previously president of the division and the designer of its facility. The company later moved to a larger space in Carol Stream, Illinois, where it is now based.
Core Pipe continued to grow through several acquisitions; the most recent being Sanford, Florida-based Tube Tec Inc. The company also has two joint-venture facilities in China.
Even with the rapid growth, Romanelli, who served as the company’s chairman and chief executive officer, always emphasized customer service.
"He was an incredible visionary and wonderful man known throughout the industry," son Steve Romanelli told AMM.
Romanelli, who began his career in 1951 at Taylor Forge in Cicero, Ill., is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda; four children; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was held on May 13 at Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, with entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Those wishing to sign the online guestbook for the family may visit www.russohillsidechapels.com.
