NY governor promises state regulations on cooling towers.
August 10, 2015
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised Sunday to begin state regulation of the structures, which have been blamed for a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in the Bronx.
Cuomo added that state workers were testing more than 60 towers that day, at New York City’s request. Mary Bassett, the city’s health commissioner, has estimated that New York City has more than 2,500 cooling towers.
Cuomo said he would create state regulations for the testing and disinfecting of cooling towers.
“At the end of this we are going to put forth a statewide regulation, so frankly I’m not going to leave it to cities, with different cities doing different things,” Cuomo said.
