Fernox is pleased to announce the appointment of Charel Marais as general manager, effective April 1, 2025. This promotion follows the retirement of Ernie McDonald from the water treatment manufacturer.

Marais joined Fernox in 2021 and has spent the past four years successfully leading the European commercial organization and, more recently, overseeing the global supply chain. With over 21 years of experience in senior roles within the HVAC industry, Marais is a respected and prominent figure in the market. His deep knowledge of the industry and understanding of customer needs will enable him to continue playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the business.

Marais commented, “I’m honored and delighted to take on this role. It’s an exciting time for Fernox as we continue to refine and strengthen our portfolio of high-quality water treatment chemistry and system filters. I am looking forward to leading this great business and its great team with a focus on expanding into new markets and building on our already strong capabilities.”

Marais' appointment as general manager follows the retirement of Ernie McDonald at the end of March. With 26 years of experience in the industry, McDonald leaves behind a proud and successful legacy. He played a key role in establishing the original Benchmark program and served as the first chairman of the Domestic Water Treatment Association (now BEAMA Water), leaving a lasting impact on the sector.

Since joining Fernox in 1999, McDonald has contributed to the culture of excellence at the company, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. While he will be retiring from his current role, McDonald will continue to support Marais and the team as a senior advisor.
