Delta Technical College (DTC) has announced it will be holding the 2025 High School Welding Competition at its Ridgeland and Horn Lake campuses on Thursday, Feb. 27, and Friday, Feb. 28, respectively. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the competition begins promptly at 8 a.m.
Seniors looking to secure their spot in the competition must RSVP by contacting their local DTC campus or visiting DeltaTechnicalCollege.com. Spots are limited, and the deadline to RSVP is Friday, Feb. 14.
“There is more than one path to a successful career, and we are proud to provide an alternative to traditional college to high schoolers in our community,” said DTC Horn Lake campus president, Tom Pullin. “At DTC, students will embark on the path to a welding career through hands-on training.”
The 2024 competitions in Ridgeland and Horn Lake awarded $45,000 in scholarships to Memphis and Jackson area high school seniors. The first prize winner of this year’s competition will take home a $5,000 scholarship to DTC and a $1,000 donation to help fund their high school’s welding department. Second- and third-prize recipients will receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships to complete their welding training at DTC.
All competition participants will receive a $500 DTC scholarship. Competitors will complete a timed welding project that will be judged by a panel of DTC welding faculty and staff.
Friends and family are invited to attend the event. In addition to the welding competition, the event will feature campus tours and opportunities to meet with DTC’s Admission Team and members of the welding department. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony announcing the winners.
“The annual welding competition is an exciting, fast-paced event focused on giving seniors the opportunity to show off their skills and earn a scholarship to DTC,” Pullin said. “We take pride in offering these programs to students looking to pursue a career in welding and stand behind the value of learning a skilled trade for a successful future.”
DTC is a trade school that provides hands-on training in mechanical trades, allied health, cosmetology, and trucking. These are skilled trades industries that can offer opportunities for long-term career paths. DTC prides itself on changing the lives of students through hands-on workforce training.
DTC is accepting donations of welding gear, merchandise, or tools for prize and raffle items. Please contact Louie Schonauer for more information.
