Washington – Code enforcement and fire service officials, inspectors, architects, engineers, designers, PMG experts, pool and spa specialists, and other construction industry professionals are making plans to attend the International Code Council’s (ICC) 2015 Annual Conference and Public Comment Hearings in Long Beach, California.
The Conference, Sept. 27-29, includes more than 20 educational opportunities to earn CEUs and LUs, certification testing, building tours and a career planning workshop. Two significant Conference events are the ICC Journey to Leadership educational session and a resilience workshop. Journey to Leadership is a follow-up to last year’s town hall meeting, which revealed what the serious impact of 80 percent of code officials planning to retire within the next 15 years will have on jurisdictions and public safety. This year, the discussion will focus on preparing mid-career building safety professionals for leadership positions and ways to welcome the next generation of code officials into the profession.
The resilience workshop, part of the Government Relations Forum, will feature Professor Jesse Keenan, Research Director for Columbia University’s Center for Urban Real Estate in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. He will discuss his research, including a global review of buildings codes, the factors that impact the built environment and ways to promote resiliency in homes and buildings.
The Group A Public Comment Hearings, Sept. 30-Oct.7, will result in the 2018 editions of the International Building Code (egress, fire safety and general sections), International Existing Building Code, International Residential Code (mechanical and plumbing sections), International Plumbing Code, International Private Sewage Disposal Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, International Property Maintenance Code and International Zoning Code.
The all new Building Safety & Design Expo, Sept. 27-28, features free technical and nontechnical education sessions along with exhibitors who will showcase the latest products and services of interest to building safety and design professionals.
