The Women of ASPE (WOA) is pleased to announce that Boston Chapter member Sabrina S. Randall, CPD, has been awarded a scholarship to attend the 2024 ASPE Convention & Expo.
Sabrina is a Plumbing/Fire Protection (P/FP) Designer with SmithGroup in Boston. She became involved in the plumbing design industry through necessity when the firm she worked at after college needed production support in the P/FP discipline. Her mentor and fellow coworker introduced her to the codes and standards and guided her until she began taking on jobs on her own and discovered a love for designing. What keeps her in the industry is the never-ceasing opportunity to problem solve and improve sanitary conditions for society.
“I am most passionate about water health,” Sabrina said. “I have been doing a fair amount of hospital work lately, with one project in particular that is on a campus that has been shut down for an extended period. We have been working closely as part of the water management team to reduce bacterial growth to safe levels and improve domestic hot water circulation throughout the campus. This type of work is especially engaging and fascinating to me.”
The 2024 ASPE Convention & Expo will be held on Oct. 18–23 in Columbus, Ohio. By attending, Sabrina is looking forward to learning more about the pathways available for designers and engineers.
“I find that I especially enjoy field investigatory work, and I’m curious what avenues are available,” she said. “In terms of technologies, I am interested in seeing what new technologies related to sustainability and energy efficiency are available.”
Congratulations Sabrina!
