ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) has issued its first ICC 500 listings for a complete above-ground tornado shelter system to ICC 500, ICC/NSSA Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters, to Survival Zone. The ICC 500 standard provides minimum design and construction requirements for storm shelters for use during tornadoes, hurricanes, and other severe windstorms.
Survival Zone has been manufacturing EF-5 rated, above-ground, steel-safe rooms since 2004. Its safe rooms are designed to meet FEMA criteria and provide protection in extreme weather events. ICC-ES has evaluated the Knight model and the Tank model safe rooms for compliance to the requirements of ICC 500.
"The issuance of our first ICC 500 listings for an above-ground tornado shelter to Survival Zone signifies a step forward in storm shelter code compliance," said Shahin Moinian, ICC-ES president. "These listings demonstrate the commitment of industry leaders to show compliance to the requirements set by ICC/NSSA, providing communities with reliable shelter options for a safer future."
"Receiving the first ICC-ES ICC 500 listings for our above-ground tornado shelters is a momentous achievement for Survival Zone," said David Jones of Survival Zone. "This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to crafting safe rooms that not only withstand the most ferocious storms but also adhere to the highest industry standards. With the Knight and Tank models now bearing the ES mark of conformity, we are reinforcing our promise to offer communities reliable shelter options when needed most."
