As a global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions, Carrier is committed to developing the next generation of innovators. In alignment with its 2030 Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) community goal to invest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education programs, Carrier is building upon its support of global youth robotics organization FIRST with a $250,000 sponsorship.
“FIRST provides students the opportunity to learn valuable engineering skills in an engaging, supportive environment. Carrier is proud to continue sponsoring FIRST teams and programs across the globe,” said Hakan Yilmaz, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Carrier.
FIRST provides mentor-based, research and robotics programs for students ages 4-18 to encourage students to develop a passion for, and potentially pursue, careers in a STEM-related field. For the 2023-2024 program year, Carrier’s multi-faceted support includes local sponsorships in the United States, India, and Poland; designated support for FIRST equity programs; and support for FIRST International.
In addition, Carrier supports employee volunteerism by providing grants for employee-led teams participating in FIRST competitions, challenges and programs. In April, a Carrier-mentored team participated in the 2023 FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas alongside more than 18,000 students from 59 different countries.
“We are delighted to have Carrier expand its support of FIRST,” said Mark Giordono, vice president of development at FIRST. “By providing sponsorship, valuable mentorship time and talent, and volunteerism, more students around the world will have access to FIRST programs now and rewarding careers after.”
