It is with profound sadness that Pacific Plumbing Supply Co. announces that Ernest (Ernie) Sherman, co-owner, passed away on July 6, 2023, at age 94.
Ernie took over Pacific in 1951, after his father, Maurice Sherman, who started Pacific in 1949, passed away. Ernie left school at age 22 to run Pacific and take care of the family. His brother, Eddie, joined the business in the late 1950s, and together, they guided Pacific to become a successful enterprise. Ernie focused on the administration of the operation, filling many roles. He remained active as an owner and board member up to the present day.
Marc Sherman, son and vice president of HR and risk management, said, “My Dad found he could make the business survive and thrive, and he realized it was a fit for him personally. His competitiveness could make him be very tough, but he had the smarts and the willingness to work very hard to back it up. What never changed was the fact that he loved the company. He recently said, ‘It’s in my blood!’ Even up to the present, you could tell every day when he came in that he was happy to be here. He loved the competitive arena and was happy to see what the company has become. He might downplay his role in it all, but his efforts were legendary.”
Ernie really enjoyed the horse racing business and was a proud Garfield Bulldog and UW Husky. He was a gifted athlete.
A private service was held on July 9th at the Bikur Cholim cemetery in North Seattle.
