Mary Jane Abeling, 94, passed away on July 13, 2023. She was born on June 8, 1929, to Wilma and Clarence Blough in Temple City, California. She was the youngest of three sisters.
MJ joined Consumers Pipe in 1975 in accounting, HR, and payroll. She became president in 1985-95 and chairman from 1995-2008 when she passed the torch to her sons Mike and Tony.
After high school, Mary Jane studied at UC Berkeley and later met William Abeling. The two wed in the summer of 1950 and settled in West Covina. They had their first child, Gail, followed by Tony and Michael. The three children started families of their own, giving Mary Jane the title of Grandmother to ten, and decades later, she'd be known as Great-grandmother to four.
From the Opera House in Sydney to the Panama Canal and the Egyptian pyramids, Mary Jane loved traveling the world with her husband, Bill. Most of their time away from home — time away from their successful business, Consumers Pipe, and Dodger games — was spent in the Eastern Sierras and Hawaii. Bill passed shortly after their 60th wedding anniversary.
The life of Mary Jane Abeling will be celebrated at Rose Hills on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hillside Chapel.
