Shapiro & Duncan, Inc. was recognized by Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. with the Eagle Award for Mechanical Projects $10 million and above for its project, INOVA Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Falls Church, Va

In related news, Jonathan Davis, a plumbing apprentice at Shapiro & Duncan, received the Silver Medal in the plumbing trade for his performance during ABC’s 30th Annual National Craft Championships competition.

The Excellence in Construction awards program honors innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects, with an Eagle Award presented to the top project in each category. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

This year’s field of competitors featured 170 craft professionals from across the country competing for top honors in 13 categories in 11 crafts. Competitors first took an intense, two-hour written exam and then competed in a daylong hands-on practical performance test.

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year's panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, the Construction Users Roundtable, and the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.
