While we never thought we’d write “Oprah Winfrey” and “no-hub couplings” in the same sentence, a lawsuit over kitchen rehab work on two condominiums once owned by Winfrey centers exactly on the use of the couplings.

Donald and Lisa Casey, who live in a three-bedroom condominium on the 55^th floor of the Chicago’s Water Tower Place condominiums contend that the use of the no-hub couplings in Winfrey’s former condo located on the 56^th and 57^th floors, are likely to leak and damage condos below.

The Caseys, who bought their condo for $1.35 million in 2015, want all work to stop on the condo and and the plumbing removed.

Named as one of the defendants in the suit is a venture that paid $4.65 million in 2015 for 9,600 square feet that Winfrey owned on the 56th and 57th floors. The firm has since carved the 56th-floor piece into three condos; the status of the 57th-floor piece is not known. Two of the 56th-floor condos are the subject of the lawsuit.

No-hub couplings are normally not used in Chicago high-rises, but last December the rehab project got permission from the city's Department of Buildings to use no-hub plumbing, according to a document included with the Caseys' suit.
