Yanmar America has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Controlled Air, a privately owned, premier HVAC solutions provider in Connecticut and surrounding states in the northeastern US. A leader in providing energy efficiency for over 40 years, Controlled Air has built a legacy of technology and innovation with market-leading HVAC services and solutions with a strong focus on the customer.
“Yanmar was drawn to Controlled Air for its engineering excellence and focus on delivering customer value,” said Jeff Albright, president of Yanmar America. “With Controlled Air’s full-service capabilities and Yanmar’s advanced technology, we will transform our energy systems business to deliver exceptional service combined with HVAC and building management solutions to customers. Furthermore, this acquisition is a natural fit to Yanmar America’s growth strategy for North America.”
Based in Branford, Connecticut, Controlled Air is a family-owned and operated company providing energy-efficient commercial HVAC and temperature controls solutions, including installation and service of combined heat and power (CHP) and gas heat pump (GHP) units. Controlled Air’s customer markets of schools, medical facilities, data centers, offices, and warehouses align well with Yanmar America’s growth focus.
Controlled Air is a sponsoring member of the Connecticut Green Building Council and provides accreditation support for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. They are also part of the EPA CHP partnership program, which provides tools and benefits to the development and installation of CHP.
“Controlled Air has been a distributor of Yanmar America’s products in the markets we serve, and we have developed a close partnership over the years,” said Vincent Chiocchio, president of Controlled Air. “As we looked to the future, we specifically chose to partner with Yanmar America because of the strong alignment of our culture and vision for an energy-efficient society. We have full confidence that Yanmar America is dedicated to the ongoing success of Controlled Air and our employees.”
In a first for Connecticut, Controlled Air pioneered the design and installation of a microgrid cogeneration system for Bridgeport, CT. The microgrid was built with 100% grid redundancy at no cost to the city with an estimated 60% savings in energy costs. With the establishment of a combined Yanmar America and Controlled Air organization, this innovation is set to continue as the new organization looks to accelerate the development and deployment of new technologies and enhance its offers of sustainable solutions to customers.
Controlled Air will become the headquarters and center for engineering excellence for Yanmar America’s energy systems business, strengthening its development activities to further expand solutions for its customers in North America.
