On July 12, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced the recipients of its annual LEED Homes Awards, celebrating green residential projects, developers and builders using LEED to improve the quality of life for residents, reduce a homes’ impact on the environment and create healthier and more resilient communities.
Recipients represent multifamily, single-family and affordable housing projects from around the world.
“Our homes are the most personal spaces we occupy and building more residential projects to LEED can have a profound impact on people and communities,” said Peter Templeton, interim president and CEO, U.S. Green Building Council. “This year’s LEED Homes Award recipients demonstrate that by applying LEED to residential projects, these spaces are transformed, creating sustainable and healthier homes for families.
This year’s LEED Homes Award recipients include the following:
Outstanding Single Family Projects
Casa Anahuac (LEED Platinum & LEED Zero Energy | Monterrey, Mexico): Casa Anahuac is the first project to achieve Platinum level under LEED for Homes certification in Latin America and the first residential project certified LEED Zero Energy outside the United States. Myers Heckman Residence (LEED Platinum | Cincinnati, Ohio): The Myers-Heckman Residence is a LEED Platinum renovation and addition to an 1870 townhouse in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Its historic status was a key driving force behind the design. The design seeks to respect the historic architecture while allowing the new interventions to be distinctly contemporary – all while significantly upgrading the home’s performance.
Newman Residence (LEED Platinum | Chicago): When the Newmans inherited their 119-year-old family home, they were aiming to transform the neighborhood’s “spooky” property into a light-filled, welcoming environment that reflected their commitment to sustainability and family.
