Texas plumber Mark Oberholtzer has settled his lawsuit with a Houston auto dealership after his old work truck complete with company decal and phone number ended up in the hands of Syrian militants who mounted it with a large gun.
Oberholtzer, owner of Mark-1 Plumbing, had sued the AutoNation Ford Gulf dealership over negligence, fraud, libel per se and invasion of privacy after the dealership resold the truck without removing the decal.
Oberholtzer said he was visited by the FBI and received angry calls after news outlet and social media user showed images of militants using the truck. An episode of “The Colbert Report” on the show’s final episode drew 2.5 million viewers and the clip was later shown on the 2015 Emmy Awards.
The settlement was filed quietly and approved by a judge in October.
