In our November 2021 Women In PHCP spotlight, we invite you to meet Courtney Whitaker, area manager for Ferguson HVAC!
PHCPPros: How and why did you decide to enter a career in the PHCP industry?
Whitaker: I started with Ferguson in its College of Ferguson training program right after I graduated from the University of South Carolina. I really liked Ferguson as a company, and I was placed into the HVAC part of the program. I knew nothing about HVAC, but I have loved learning all the ins and outs of this business.
PHCPPros: What have been some of your career highlights?
Whitaker: I moved to Florida and opened our Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach branches, which was exciting. Watching the business grow has been really fun, too. I have also had the opportunity to live in four different states while with Ferguson the past six years, and I have loved the adventure!
PHCPPros: What are your thoughts on mentorship for women?
Whitaker: I am always looking for opportunities to connect with other women in the industry outside of Ferguson. I have always kept in close touch with the women I have worked with and am thankful for those relationships.
PHCPPros: What do you think the PHCP industry can do to better recruit and retain women?
Whitaker: This industry needs to continue highlighting women as it does in this spotlight series so we can continue to connect and show others that we are making an impact in the industry. Ferguson does a great job at recognizing talent and ensuring women are recruited.
PHCPPros: Is there anything from your personal life that you would like to highlight?
Whitaker: I am getting married in December and have a sweet Goldendoodle named Charlie!
