Sloan, the world's leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems, is helping facilities across the country obtain WELL Building Standard (WELL) certifications by providing products that address sustainability and health and wellness initiatives.
The WELL Building Standard is a rating system created by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) that focuses on how buildings affect human health and wellness. Launched in 2014, it has helped guide design for thousands of buildings across the world. By giving clear guidelines for creating spaces that keep people healthy and productive, the WELL Building Standard is pivotal for creating building environments for a brighter, healthier future.
"Designing spaces that adhere to WELL allows facilities to better serve the people inside," said Jim Allen, Sloan co-president and CEO. "Sloan has strived to help people live healthier lives dating all the way back to 1906 with the inception of our very first flushometer, and we continue that mission today by focusing on environmental impact, people's wellness and safety, and product transparency."
With hundreds of products across eight categories that meet the WELL Building Standard, Sloan offers more sustainable and wellness products per category than any other plumbing manufacturer. Facilities can obtain WELL credits in the W08 Hygiene Support criteria by using Sloan products that support effective handwashing. With Sloan products like the Royal Reclaimed Water Flushometer that help preserve non-potable water, facilities can earn credits in the W09 Onsite Non-potable Water Reuse criteria.
Select Sloan products contain enhanced ingredient disclosures that are third-party verified to help earn WELL credits in the X07 Materials Transparency criteria. By disclosing Sloan product makeup, facility owners can know and feel confident that their guests are not exposed to harmful materials, and their building can earn credits in the X01 Materials Restrictions criteria.
Sloan's commitment to sustainability and wellness concentrates on three key areas: environmental impact, people's safety and health, and product transparency. Recent Sloan product innovations include mobile handwashing stations for hand hygiene outside the restroom and BASYS® guided handwashing faucets, while Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs) promote product transparency to help specify fixtures with sustainable materials and substances.
