McWane Plumbing Group held an open house Sept. 27 to celebrate the opening of its new distribution warehouse in South Plainfield, N.J.
Although the company acquired the site last summer, it didn’t start shipping from the new site until two weeks ago.
“The whole purpose of this new location is to get us closer and more involved in the New York City and New Jersey plumbing community,” said Sterling Bowman, vice president of Tyler Pipe & Coupling. “We can pickup, we can deliver – we have our own boom truck - to get the job done.”
The site sits on six acres with 65,000 sq. ft. of indoor storage.
“It’s one of the biggest pipe yards we have,” Bowman added. “Our local distributors stock, of course, but can’t keep everything, particularly cast-iron products. Bbut we’ve got everything right here – about 2,500 tons of inventory.
Jerry Kosloski, distribution manager, a 25-year-veteran of shipping and logistics was hired by McWane a year ago to plan and run the facility. He’ll have five others working for him – two of whom spent time recently at Tyler’s Texas headquarters to gain experience picking orders. In addition, a customer service rep will be on hand, too.
Kosloski’s crew will be on the job early since pre-arranged pickups will begin as early as 4 a.m. – a must for deliveries to jobsites given the locale’s traffic congestion.
The warehouse will also be able to ship to other locations in Northeast thanks to 15 service bays
The opening had a decidedly Texas flavor, featuring BBQ and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, but in addition to Tyler stock, the warehouse will also store products from Wade Drains, Anaco-Husky and AB&I Foundry plumbing products.
The address is: 111 Somogyi Court, South Plainfield, New Jersey.
