As one of San Diego County's primary COVID-19 vaccination sites, the Recreation, Intramural, and Athletic Complex (RIMAC) on the campus of UC San Diego is helping vaccinate close to 4,000 people every day.
And with such a high volume of visitors, the UC San Diego facilities team recognized that health and safety protocols would be essential to maintain proper hygiene and overall cleanliness. Specifically, the university needed to prioritize easy access to hand hygiene solutions for staff and patients beyond just the RIMAC's restrooms.
That's why UC San Diego worked with Delco Sales to specify three Sloan mobile handwashing stations to enable more convenient and touch-free handwashing applications on wheels throughout the RIMAC, in addition to the Sloan faucets already in the campus restrooms. Designed to be placed anywhere hygiene is essential, UC San Diego strategically placed mobile handwashing stations throughout the vaccination room, waiting room, and post-vaccine treatment center to make sure a handwashing outlet was nearby, regardless of location.
"Sloan mobile handwashing stations are the ideal solution for our vaccination clinic," said Rich Mylin, director of recreation at UC San Diego. "They provide a sense of enhanced hygiene at key locations throughout the clinic, while also proving to be very easy to install."
Putting a Priority on Hygiene
When people arrive at a mass vaccination site, they want the peace of mind that they're being vaccinated in a location where safety and hygiene are the top priority. In addition to enhancing hand hygiene on-site, Rich Mylin, UC San Diego Director of Recreation, also wanted to specify the mobile handwashing stations to make patients feel more comfortable throughout the vaccination process. The model (MH-2000) UC San Diego specified is a fully self-contained, off-the-grid model that comes with two 5-gallon water bottles and a battery, so the unit can run without connection to any power or water supply. With a Corian sink deck and a vitreous china undermount bowl, sensor-operated Sloan SF-2250 Faucet, touchless enMotion paper towel dispenser, and Purell CS-8 wall-mounted foam soap dispenser, Sloan's mobile handwashing stations provide the hygienic outlets that are so crucial to help mitigate the spread of germs and infection.
Easy Installation
Time was of the essence for the UC San Diego team to get the mobile handwashing stations installed, as they had to be up and running in just one day. But according to Mylin, installation could not have been easier. Due to the fact that the facilities team was able to simply wheel the handwashing stations off the truck upon arrival, the handwashing outlets were in use 24 hours later after a quick and easy installation. UC San Diego also plans to use the mobile handwashing stations for future events such as athletic programming and more.
