Expanding Your Options
I would like to share a tip that I think most guys will appreciate, considering I bet many have run into this challenge from time to time.
Ever been on a service call or even a remodel where the copper water line is not normal pipe size? It might be 7/8-inch O.D. and nothing on the truck will fit? Usually, it’s buried in the concrete or under an old mobile home that doesn’t look too appealing and running a new line will just take too long.
Take your PEX expansion tool and ½-inch copper coupling. Slide the coupling so it’s tight on the expander head and slowly expand the tool. Go about 50 percent with the tool and rotate a few times.
This will slowly expand the copper fitting so you are able to make the connection and be on your way. Hope this helps!

General Pipe Cleaners and PHC News have teamed up on a monthly Tool Tip contest. PHC News will pick one prizewinner in each issue. And each winner will receive a Kinetic Water Ram, including 4-inch rubber cone, five rubber plugs and a carrying case all with a retail value of $325.
The Kinetic Water Ram uses a burst of compressed air that drives a shock wave through water instantly pulverizing stoppages – rust, grease, sediment and scale – in 1-1/4- to 4-inch lines. It won’t harm piping since the Kinetic Water Ram directs 98 percent of the force down the line – and only 2 percent against the pipe wall.
