The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association (PHCC) presented its 2019 HVAC Instructor of the Year award to Tony DeSantis, an instructor of PHCC of Greater Los Angeles Area (PHCC of GLAA) in Los Angeles.
“We need respected instructors like Tony to continue to build the future for our industry,” PHCC President Ken Nielsen said during the awards presentation Oct. 4 during PHCCCONNECT2019 in Indianapolis.
In a nomination form from the PHCC of GLAA, DeSantis is described as having a reputation for loving teaching and sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with students. He personalizes training for each student, ensuring each one can learn at an appropriate pace, and even donates equipment and material to his classroom and lab so students can get hands-on experience.
In addition to being an instructor at PHCC of GLAA, DeSantis regularly teaches at California Building Officials meetings and also serves as the mechanical code instructor for the city of Los Angeles.
Known as a true mentor and leader, DeSantis emphasizes continuous improvement by helping students strengthen their weak points and encouraging them to take on more difficult tasks to build their resolve and confidence. He is committed to helping students become their best in all aspects of their life, not only as a skilled worker, but also as a person, teammate, and asset to the trade and community.
