The Lansing State Journal reports that Michigan state and local officials knew a year in advance of lead contamination issues without proper treatment to water drawn from the Flint River.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality went ahead and authorized the city’s plan to pump water from the river, and into residents’ homes, without adding an important chemical that would prevent contamination from lead in old pipes.
