VP Supply Corp, Rochester, N.Y., participated in a dedication ceremony on Oct. 10, as Flower City Habitat for Humanity welcomed the Seymore family to their new home on Cuba Place in Rochester. VP Supply served as sponsor for this home rehabilitation project.
The ceremony was attended by VP leadership and staff, representatives of Flower City Habitat for Humanity, the Seymore family, and many volunteers who worked on the home. The dedication celebrated the completion of the project, which kicked off in July. Collaboration with Flower City Habitat for Humanity is one way VP Supply has been celebrating its 50th year in business supplying plumbing, HVAC, kitchen, bath and renewable energy products to contractors and homeowners.
VP Supply President Gary Curwin describes the origins of his company’s involvement: “We wanted to do something in honor of our founders Marv Miller and Elliot Curwin during our 50th anniversary. Louis [Curwin, VP Supply Secretary/Treasurer] became aware of The Cuba Place home rehabilitation, which lined up perfectly with his vision to do something oriented around family and community. Plus, VP Supply was first established just down the road from the Seymore's new home, so it just felt right to help this deserving family and neighborhood.”
Describing the effect the Habitat sponsorship had on VP’s employees, Curwin states: ”We started this project as a way of giving back to the community. But through this great experience, our employees believe we received more than we gave.”
“It is truly only because of the support from our local community that we are able to provide homeownership opportunities for hard-working families year after year,” says Flower City Habitat for Humanity President & CEO Matt Flanigan. “Having corporate support, through long- time Rochester businesses like VP Supply is crucial. We are incredibly honored that they have chosen to invest in a Habitat house as a way to honor their 50th anniversary. Our hope is that their leadership will inspire others to do the same.”
VP Supply served as sponsor for the Cuba Place rehab project, providing volunteer labor and complimentary products for the home’s kitchen and bathrooms. More than 15 VP Supply associates volunteered over 100 man hours to aid in the renovation. (For a video reflection featuring VP Supply employees and narrated by Louis Curwin, click here.)
