Throughout 2017, Superior Boiler Works Inc., will celebrate 100 years as a continuously operating business. Only one percent of all companies make it to the century mark as continuous operating businesses.
The company traces its roots back to Hugh Gass, who opened Superior Welding Shop on Washington Street in Hutchinson, Kansas, in 1917. Superior Welding trained welding students during WWII and graduated more than 200 students from its training classes. Around this same time, the company began to engineer and do work with boilers and pressure vessels under the leadership of longtime owner Clyde Anderson, and the company name became Superior Boiler Works.
Over the years, the company was always considered one of the pioneers in the scotch-marine firetube boiler industry, whether it related to engineering or size. The quality and reliability produced by Superior Boiler's skilled workers is a tradition that remains a common trait of the company today.
“We're extremely excited to celebrate our centennial throughout 2017,” said Superior Boiler Works CEO Doug Wright. "This is a monumental milestone. Very few companies find the right formula to make it this long, and we have. It's a testament to our entire team of employees now and before us. The common characteristic is they always listened to what the marketplace and our customers were asking of us, and that's what we delivered."
“More recently, we have expanded our portfolio of products through organic growth and acquisitions to again be responsive to our customers and position us for the future,” said Vice President of Sales & Marketing Gabriel Dauphin. “Superior Boiler Works is the leading company in our industry providing customized, engineered solutions for all boiler-related projects involving steam and hot water.”
