The Los Angeles Times reports on a plans at the Water Replenishment District of Southern California for a $95 million water treatment plant that would take water from a nearby sewage treatment facility and, using advanced procedures such as reverse osmosis, purify that water to meet or exceed drinking water standards.

The facility is the key component of the district's Groundwater Reliability Improvement Program. The district manages two enormous underground aquifers that provide water to roughly 40 percent of the population of southern Los Angeles County.
