Sustainable management standard receives ANSI approval
February 26, 2015
Chicago, IL - The American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) and the Water Quality Association (WQA) are pleased to announce that the standard now known as WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-801 (2015): Sustainable Management has been officially approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard.
WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-801 can be used to evaluate a company’s sustainability-related governance and management practices at the corporate and production facility levels. It focuses on the following core attributes:
Corporate social responsibility and healthy, safe working conditions
Organizational sustainability (e.g., policies, communications, transparency/reporting, environmental monitoring, and improvement)
Sustainable supply chains
WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-801 is a prerequisite for certification to two WQA sustainability-related product standards, WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-802: Sustainable Activated Carbon for Drinking Water Treatment and WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803: Sustainable Drinking Water Treatment Systems, both of which received ANSI approval in 2014. Companies and facilities cannot be certified to S-801, but companies whose facilities conform to the requirements of S-801 are eligible to have their products evaluated for certification to S-802 and S-803.
“WQA began collaborating with ASPE in 2013 to take our S-800 sustainability standards through the formal public review process necessary for approval as American National Standards,” explains Pauli Undesser, CWS-VI, Deputy Executive Director of WQA. “By achieving ANSI accreditation for our S-801 standard, we’ve put the final piece in place for our original vision of the sustainability series.”
