Plumbers Without Borders (PWB) has teamed up with Water Mission to boost the capacity of local plumbers to help as many people as possible following the damages caused by the recent round of freezing temperatures and ensuing water crisis.
The initial and immediate need is for licensed plumbers who can drive to Austin with their truck and tools — and potentially stocked with plumbing pipe and fittings — as there is no guarantee piping materials will be readily available. This is subject to change as progress is made in coordinating with local plumbing companies. Volunteer plumbers will be based in the Austin area with recovery efforts managed by Water Mission and their local partner, Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN).
Qualified volunteers are being asked to donate their skills and time, however, any out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel, lodging, and meals will be reimbursed by Water Mission, along with any job-related materials purchased. The minimum deployed time suggested is two weeks. Experience with retrofitting systems damaged by freezing temperatures is ideal.
All efforts will be prioritized to address the most under-resourced residents with the most urgent needs.
