Jay L. Smith II, president of Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co., passed away on April 3 at the age of 76.
Smith, a former Navy officer, was the third generation of Smith family leadership in the company. He became president of Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co. in 1978, when his father, Jay R. Smith, retired and the company moved to Montgomery, Ala. Smith led the company through a tremendous period of change and growth.
Smith is survived by his daughters Holly Smith-Roth and Debbie Smith-Clancy.
Smith was an avid sportsman. He played semi-pro baseball and tried out for the Dodgers. He also competed in cycling in the National Senior Games and enjoyed golfing. He will be remembered for his love of his family and the people who worked with him.
