Unified Group Members Attend Annual Meeting, Making the Difference Award Winner Recognized
Known for providing quality training and professional development opportunities, members of The Unified Group — an organization of the leading independent HVAC commercial contractors — recently attended the 25th Annual Meeting & Owners’ Forum in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“One of the most valuable aspects of these meetings lies in the networking opportunities,” said Tom Dacres of VHV Company. “Allowing for one-on-one conversations with fellow successful business owners who face similar day-to-day challenges, providing a platform for learning from each other's successes.”
During the first day, Brian Martinenza of Service Unlimited, Inc. facilitated the highlighting panel discussion on company culture. The session covered how member companies built a successful culture and any struggles they’ve encountered along the way. Panelists included Frank Quintanar of J&J Air Conditioning, Mark Hottel of Harvey W. Hottel, Gary Myers of Intech Mechanical and Dacres.
“The information shared within the group was very insightful and useful,” said Craig Bast of Standard Plumbing & Heating. “I took away three different ideas with this one session.”
During the forum’s second day, the topic of cash flow was the highest rated segment. Stacy Shiflet of Blauch Brothers, Inc. led the session by covering the Work in Progress (WIP) method of accounting, the importance of the billing process and the proper use of the schedule of values. Having access to an experienced CFO on site was extremely beneficial to the owners, allowing them to get their questions answered immediately.
“The breakout sessions, the networking/social time and generally just finding out what our peers are doing is what makes these meetings so successful,” said Grant Wiegmann of Wiegmann Associates.
On the last day of meetings, Pansy Romo of Intech Mechanical spoke on the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion. By covering what each of these looks like in the workplace, the overall importance and how to accommodate and thrive, members walked away with a better idea of how to implement these practices within their own companies.
“If I did not attend this meeting, I would have missed the opportunity to share and collaborate with the best people in the industry,” said Derren Saucier of Temperature, Inc. “This group has helped me grow as a leader and guided my company to success. I am truly grateful to be a part of this.”
Making the Difference Award
Every year, the Unified Group recognizes one of its member companies for going above and beyond expectations. This year’s recipient of the Making the Difference Award is Intech Mechanical of Roseville, California.
In 2023, Intech Mechanical hosted a diversity, equity and inclusion webinar, held a town hall meeting for Unified Group members, and hosted a tour of their facility as part of the group’s 2023 Construction Forum. During the tour, Unified Group members got to experience Intech’s top-notch company culture first-hand, and the employees’ excitement to show off their hard work was tangible.
“I was thoroughly impressed with the tour,” said Scott Krum, President of Legacy Mechanical. “You could feel the energy and passion every employee had for their position, peers and company.”
Intech’s willingness to help other Unified Group members made them an obvious choice for the 2023 Making the Difference Award. Whether it’s hosting a webinar, sharing best practices at a forum, or answering questions via the membership email tool, Intech is always striving to contribute to the group's success.
