F.W. Webb Company Promotes Work-Study Program

March 21, 2023

The F.W. Webb Company partners with technical and vocational high schools to provide work-study opportunities to trade students.

"Students learn about potential career options while gaining valuable on-the-job experience," said Senior Vice President of Human Resources Ruth Martin. "Several students over the years wanted to stay at Webb after they graduated from their programs."

Typically, a school submits a proposal outlining its co-op plan. Upon approval, Webb, the school and the student sign an agreement that details the parameters.

Work schedules vary per school. Some students work full-time for a semester, others work a week-on, week-off schedule, while some work a set number of hours daily.

A student’s typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Assisting with the store’s day-to-day operations
  • Receiving deliveries in the warehouse
  • Stocking shelves
  • Pulling contractor orders for pick up
  • Light office work, including scanning data and covering the front desk

F.W. Webb currently has over 20 active co-ops working throughout the company.

In January, the corporate office engaged in a new and unique program with Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School of Methuen, MA. The school employs the students through its work-study program. The money students earn directly helps finance their education. They learn the real-world lesson of providing for themselves while working in a professional office environment.

Work-study programs not only help students with their growth and development but also provide Webb with employees, which is a great benefit in this challenging recruiting environment.
