HOPKINTON, Mass. – After speaking with many manufacturers and distributors in the electrical, automation, PVF and industrial trades, John Salvadore, managing partner of GRN Coastal, identified that one of the biggest challenges to achieving growth is the inability to recruit quality talent. While companies could hire people, the issue became hiring qualified people who fit the needs of their organizations.
Having worked for manufacturers and distributors, Salvadore saw that he could help companies. He recruited, hired, managed and motivated the exact type of people that companies needed, and being entrepreneurial, he sought to fill a need.
Earlier this year, Salvadore launched Global Recruiters Network (GRN) Coastal. GRN Coastal is an industry-specific recruitment firm focused on supporting companies in the electrical, automation, PVF and industrial trades. Distributor and manufacturer searches are focused on management, field sales, marketing, channel, engineering and specialist roles.
GRN Coastal is a part of a dynamic organization that has over 200 offices worldwide.
Salvadore said, “Global Recruiters Network, based in Chicago, has provided tremendous support. They have the technology infrastructure we needed, and the networking among offices is tremendous. With our network and databases, I can readily access talent anywhere to supplement our personal contacts.”
When asked “Why start a recruitment firm?,” Salvadore responded. “I’ve dealt with recruiters in the industry for years. While they had extensive contact databases, rarely did they seem to understand what my search needs were. While they did searches ‘in the industry,’ they weren’t ‘from the industry.’ I knew I could help hiring companies and candidates by bringing industry empathy to both. The response to date has been great.”
Salvadore knows the business well. He’s had manufacturer experience at Eaton; distribution experience with All-Phase (now part of CED) and Horizon Solutions (a Rockwell distributor); and industry service organization experience with Affiliated Distributors, SourceAlliance.com and Vanguard National Alliance. He’s hired sales people, sales specialists, sales engineers, lighting and energy specialists, branch managers — and brings the knowledge of what manufacturers and distributors need to be successful.
His experiences provided Salvadore the opportunity be responsible for contractor sales, industrial and automation sales as well as developed energy initiatives. This broad perspective of what drives distributor and manufacturer business enables GRN Coastal to understand client needs.
Over the past eight months, the business has grown. GRN Coastal is moving into a new corporate office and is the process of hiring additional staff.
